About Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture
Oshu City is located in the southern inland area of Iwate Prefecture, bordering the cities of Kitakami, Nishiwaga, Kanegasaki, and Hanamaki to the north, Ichinoseki and Hiraizumi to the south, Tono and Sumita to the east, and Akita to the west.
The total area is as vast as 993.35 square kilometers, extending about 57 kilometers from east to west and about 37 kilometers from north to south.
The Kitakami River runs through the center of the city, and on the west side of the Kitakami River lies the Isawa alluvial fan, which was opened by the Isawa River.
The town is surrounded by water and greenery.
The Yakeishi mountain range in the western region, with Mt.Yakeishi, the highest peak in Oshu City, as the main peak, is rich in primeval beech forests. On the east side of the Kitakami River lies a rural area connected to the Kitakami Mountains, and on the east end lies the Taneyama highlands and the Abarayama highlands. The entire area is blessed with lush greenery.
In terms of land use, 17.7% of the total area is rice fields, 4.8% is fields, 3.5% is residential land, and 44.1% is mountains and forests. The ratio of farmland is high, and this area is one of the best agricultural areas in the prefecture due to complex agriculture centered on rice cultivation.
In addition, thanks to the convenience of transportation, one of the largest commercial clusters in the prefecture has been developed, and industrial parks and other facilities have been developed to promote the business development of traditional and core industries.
